Creating a global dataset of accessible locations for people with disabilities.
There is currently no go-to tool for people with disabilities to determine the accessibility of points of interest, making it difficult for them to plan appropriately. A number of efforts are underway to rate the accessibility of the world’s public places, but the data generated by these efforts currently exists in a variety of formats and locations.
With a €825,000 grant, Wheelmap is developing the common standards and technology backend needed to bring this data together and make it available for use by the many apps and websites that help people with disabilities route, plan, and enjoy the process of exploring the world.
Over the next two years, Wheelmap will work to make data on 1 million physical locations available to the world.
