Google.org Impact Challenge for Women and Girls
Gender inequity is one of the most urgent challenges we face as a society, and COVID-19 has put the economic future of so many women and girls at even greater risk. We're giving $25 million to 34 organizations creating pathways to prosperity for women and girls, which builds on $55 million we've committed over the last five years to organizations working on similar causes.
Google.org Impact Challenges
Each challenge is an invitation for ideas that tackle a specific problem or support a particular community, whether that is a city, continent, or the entire world. We look for nonprofits and social enterprises with ideas that can create change at the pace and scale the world needs today. The best and boldest ideas are given a strategic package of funding, mentorship, and technical support.
How it Works
-
Phase 1
Applications open
We ask communities for their ideas. Applicants have a specified time to submit their proposals.
-
Phase 2
Ideas are selected
We ask experts, community leaders, and the general public to help determine which ideas have the most potential for impact.
-
Phase 3
Announcement and celebration
Chosen applicants are announced and the community is celebrated.
-
Phase 4
Ongoing support
Awarded nonprofits and social enterprises receive grant funding and support from Google.org for up to three years to turn their ideas into reality.
Two times the impact
For every $1 of investment made through a Google.org Impact Challenge, grantees yielded an additional $1 in funding, which they directly attribute to their participation in the challenge.
Why we created Google.org Impact Challenges
-
We know the people closest to the problem often have the best solutions
We empower those most closely connected to communities in need to define the problem–and the solution.
-
Participatory philanthropy uncovers new approaches
We ask experts, social innovators, and the general public to think about difficult problems together, which enables the discovery of new solutions.
-
New ideas need early support to reach their potential
We provide funding, mentorship, and technical expertise to catalyze ideas that are already making a difference in communities and have the potential to change the world.
