Overview

Understanding and improving the social safety net for freelance workers

What they do

Technology platforms have enabled a rise in so-called “gig” workers, as well as other types of independent work and freelancing . The Aspen Institute Future of Work Initiative is focused on equipping decision-makers with the data and ideas they need to help respond to changes in the economy and ensure quality work for freelancers and ‘’gig’’ workers.

How we're helping

The Aspen Institute Future of Work Initiative is building two products with Google.org’s support. The first is a new digital resource to provide researchers, policymakers, and journalists with a one-stop shop for what we know and do not know about “gig” workers and other independent workers. The second is a guide to help decision makers explore how to make portable benefits work for this group of workers.
