Ratna Nidhi Charitable Trust

Ratna Nidhi is working to bring comfortable, easy-to-produce prosthetic sockets to rural areas of India using 3D scanning and printing.

Problem

Because the prosthetic socket creation process is inefficient and timely, most of the estimated 5 million people in India in need of a lower limb prosthetic don’t use their devices—if they have them at all—due to discomfort and improper fit, negatively affecting their quality of life.

Project

Ratna Nidhi Charitable Trust is using a $350,000 grant from Google.org to develop 3D scanning software to scan residual limbs and print proper-fitting sockets for people in rural areas of India.

Impact

Ensure that everyone has access to well-fitting sockets in order to increase mobility and quality of life.
