Locally major coastal flooding expected along the south shore bays of Long Island this morning.

Elsewhere minor to moderate coastal flooding expected today.

Coastal Flood Warning remains in effect until 3 pm EDT this afternoon.

  • Tidal departures: along the south shore bays of Long Island, Queens and Brooklyn, tidal departures of 3 to 4.5 ft are expected during this mornings high tide, resulting in flooding above moderate to major flood thresholds. Elsewhere tidal departures will likely be 2.0 to 3.0 ft above astronomical tides, promoting flooding near or slightly over moderate benchmarks. For tonights high tide, the South Shore bays of Queens, Brooklyn, and Nassau County will likely see at least minor coastal flooding.
  • High Surf, breaking waves will subside to 10 to 15 ft along Ocean facing shorelines today. Meanwhile, 3 to 5 ft waves are expected along exposed Southern facing portions of Long Island Sound, Peconic and Gardiners Bays, and New York Harbor. These waves on top of residual storm Tide will continue to cause major beach erosion, and localized Washovers and damage to coastal structures near sea level through Tuesday.
  • Timing: during the times of high tide this morning through early afternoon.
  • Impacts, some of the historically vulnerable spots along the south shore bays of Long Island, Queens and Brooklyn will see major overland inundation during this mornings high tide, making roads along waterways impassable and significantly inundating adjacent property. These water levels will be much lower than the historic water levels Monday night, but they will hamper rescue and recovery efforts for a few hours around the times of high tide. Elsewhere, minor to moderate roadway and overland flooding is expected along vulnerable Low-lying coastal areas during the times of high tide. Water levels for todays high tide cycle.
