Flood Warning for Bronx, New York

The Flood Warning will be allowed to expire at 12:15 pm EDT for urban areas and small streams in Bronx County. Although the warning has been allowed to expire, minor flooding of urban, low lying and poor drainage areas is still possible. Please continue to exercise caution when traveling.


Ways to prepare and stay safe now

  • During
    Avoid walking or driving through flood waters.
    Just 6 inches of moving water can knock you down and 2 feet of water can sweep your vehicle away.
    If there’s a chance of flash flooding, move immediately to higher ground.
    Flash floods are the #1 cause of weather-related deaths in the US.
    Walk only where floodwaters aren’t moving.
    Use a stick to check the depth of the water and firmness of the ground in front of you.
    If floodwaters rise around your car but the water is not moving, abandon the car and move to higher ground.
    Just 1 foot of water can stall your engine and make the car float away.
    Avoid camping or parking along streams, rivers, and creeks during heavy rainfall.
    These areas can flood quickly and with little warning.
